The Canes twice fought back from a goal down, but then hung on for a 4-3 win over the Islanders. For the second time in three games the Canes lost a game that they probably should have won. But, in each, they could not adequately solve Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobes and ended up on the losing end. The trade deadline came and went without Carolina making the big splash so many wanted to see. Then the Canes went out and drowned the Oilers with their defense.
