After the death of Deputy Ned Byrd, some of the officers who worked with him and attended his funeral were reassigned. Sources tell WRAL News this was a punishment from Sheriff Gerald Baker. In addition, Byrd’s family was devastated to find out that the sheriff’s office had asked that all of his belongings that were on him when he was killed be returned to his employer, not them.
