This marked a second straight underwhelming postseason performance and added to broader concerns about inconsistency during Davis’s tenure. Although he led the Tar Heels to the national championship game in 2022 and compiled a strong overall record, the program also missed the tournament in 2023 and failed to meet the high expectations associated with UNC basketball.
