Reese, Pam and Alex discuss the potential impact of the NCAA’s proposed expansion on the future of March Madness, including how it could change tournament structure, competitiveness and opportunities for teams.

The NCAA is moving toward expanding both the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments from 68 to 76 teams, with a decision expected soon and implementation possibly as early as the 2026-27 season. The proposed format would add eight additional teams and significantly expand the opening round. Instead of the current “First Four,” 24 teams would compete in 12 play-in games, likely held across multiple sites rather than just one location. The winners of those games would advance to join the rest of the field in the traditional 64-team bracket. This would mark the first tournament expansion since 2011 and reflects growing support from NCAA leadership and major conferences. While proponents argue the change creates more opportunities for teams, critics believe it could dilute the quality and intensity that define March Madness. What does the Sports Shop crew think? Is this a good idea? Does anyone want this?
